Classical Ballet
Classical Ballet is a highly stylized dance form performed to music, using precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. It originated during the Italian Renaissance and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia during the 19th century. Ballet forms the basis of all other dance genres/forms as it helps to develop and correct everyday posture lengthening and strengthening your muscles, increasing your breathing and body alignment, balance, grace, physical strength and agility, co-ordination, correct technique and musicality. It centre around learning different combinations and movements and remembering them in sequences increasing memory power. It is considered a creative outlet and many students have found ballet to relieve stress and improve mood during study times.
About the Classes
RAD Ballet GRADES Pre—Primary to Grade 8 Our classical Ballet classes cover the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabi which also include National/Character work. Character dance is the stylized representation of traditional folk or national dance and uses movements and music which have been adapted for ballets seen in the theatre. These classes are specifically designed to give you a thorough training and understanding of the Ballet technique whilst having a fun and enjoyable style of exercise. The syllabus is well structured and carefully designed for the growing body, providing a broad practical dance education developing technical, musical and performance skills. Each grade is a foundation for the next level. Pupils do not have to take exams to progress to the next level but the exams do give a sense of achievement and some exams have credits for University entrance. We offer exam classes according to personal preferences for pupils from 6yrs upwards.
RAD VOCATIONAL BALLET CLASSES Intermediate to Advanced 2. These classes require a good standard of prior knowledge and ability. They provide an in-depth study of ballet and prepare students for a career in dance.
